Welcome to our Year 5 page where you will find all the necessary information for your child’s journey through Year 5.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS
Every week, students will be expected to do the following for homework:
– Read everyday – between 5 and 20 minutes
– When they have completed a book, complete a quiz using Accelerated Reader.
– Complete My Maths Homework– Home – MyMaths
20 minutes a day reading. Reading as much as is convenient with an adult – a child following the words as they are read is a very powerful way to gain fluency. Try to read a variety of well written texts (for example those on the suggested reading list above). Try to avoid over-reading the same, highly stylised texts e.g. Diary of a Wimpy Kid (though, of course, reading anything is better than not reading at all. Reading a non-fiction book every now and again provides great reading experience and a chance to improve general knowledge.
Regular engagement with Accelerated Reader to complete quizzes- Renaissance Learning Login. Did you know that many children in Key Stage Two read over 1 million words per year? An amazing achievement!
In Year 5, we have swimming lessons, and each class will go across one of the terms. Your teachers will be in touch about this. It will take place on Thursdays each week.
