Welcome to Ward 1, an integral part of Trinity Health Centre – Bede Academy’s new teaching and learning hub for the brand-new T-Level Health course.
Developed in close association with Northumbria University, the course is designed to encourage more people to work in the NHS, health and social care sectors. Students will learn about person-centric care, health and wellbeing, infection prevention and control and safeguarding, as well as some core science concepts and their application in health.
The ward features decommissioned hospital beds and items of equipment kindly donated by the NHS. The centre also includes its own reception area, consultation rooms and an adjacent learning suite with direct views of the ward itself.
Mark Davies, AVP Post-16 Technical, said, “It is our vision that Health, alongside the Engineering T Level will allow us to take a lead role in the development of young people in these key areas. We want to become regionally and nationally recognised in providing excellent curriculum pathways in these sectors, with the DFE already recognising our groundbreaking approach.”
Natalie Winchester, Subject Lead Health and Social Care and Post-16 Raising Standard Leader at Bede Academy, added, “We have worked closely with experts from the University’s Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health to develop the course curriculum. This fabulous new facility will enable our students to gain a real hands-on experience of the sector as part of their course.”
Mark Boyers, the Trust’s Projects and Facilities Director, led the design, development and build of the new space, which has been reimagined from life-expired study areas in Trinity House. “This was a first for our team. Working within a tight budget and even tighter timescale, we have collaborated with existing suppliers to develop something that is very different to our normal output. I’m delighted with the outcome and hope it will serve our T-Level Health students well.”
The space is already in use by the first cohort of T-Level students and will be officially opened on 30 September by Marion Dickson, Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals and Executive Director for Surgery and Community Services.
