Sunrise Remembrance Service at Blyth Beach – Honouring the Fallen

At 7:15am on Tuesday 11th November 2025, members of the Bede Academy community gathered at Blyth Beach for a moving Sunrise Remembrance Service, honouring those who have served and sacrificed in times of conflict.

The service opened with a welcome from Mr Burns, Head of School at Bede South, followed by a powerful choral performance of “Remember” by the Bede South Choir, setting a reflective tone for the morning.

Two Bede South students from Lower Key Stage Two shared a Bible reading from John 15:12–17, reminding us of the power of love and sacrifice. The congregation then joined together in singing the hymn “I Vow to Thee, My Country”, a heartfelt tribute to both national service and spiritual devotion.

A poignant reading of “In Flanders Fields” by two Year Six students echoed the voices of those lost in war, followed by a moment of reflection led by Mr Campbell, Assistant Vice Principal.

As the sun rose over the sea, our brass students joined Mr Flood and Mr Sutton in performing The Last Post, leading into a two-minute silence, observed with reverence as Royal Navy Associates lowered their flags. This was followed by Reveille, symbolising the return to life and duty.

The Bede North Cantata Choir then offered a stirring musical rendition of “In Flanders Fields”, bringing the poem to life through harmony and emotion.

The service concluded with a final prayer from Mr Thelwell, Principal of Bede Academy, encouraging all present to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the love that binds us together.

We are deeply grateful to all who attended and contributed to this meaningful act of remembrance. We want to say thank you to all the people who joined us today and the way that our community chose to honour the fallen. As the waves lapped the shore and the sky brightened, our community stood united in honour, reflection, and hope.
