PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: Value Each Other – Value Blyth

Bede values our place in the strong and vibrant community of Blyth.  We are proud to work alongside neighbourhood groups to protect and build this community, and we are saddened when a few of its members do not value what we have.

Today, Year 8 heard from our neighbourhood policing officer, PC Dan Baxter, on the consequences of anti-social behaviour.  PC Baxter spoke about the financial and emotional costs when local shops and even homes become the targets of abuse.  He made clear that such behaviour is a criminal offence and that, especially with modern technology, the police do identify offenders.  He then explained the penalties: from fines, to effects on tenant agreements, to criminal records that limit future careers.  This was sobering information and a very important challenge to the idea that rowdy behaviour is just ‘high jinks’.

The talk ended on the positive note that the vast majority of Bede students are responsible and giving members of our community – we see this every day.  PC Baxter and Vice Principal, Mr Read, then challenged all our community to show the courage and love to treat everyone fairly, to prove stereotypes about young people wrong, and to value what brilliant Blyth gives them.  We know they will do so.
