Personal Development: Alcohol Awareness when it Counts

Personal Development: Alcohol Awareness when it Counts

Last week’s Year 8 focus in Personal Development was the risk of alcohol consumption.  We are very grateful to Helena Swarbrook from Sorted for her expert perspective on the harm alcohol causes.  From her direct experience working in our community, Helena outlined the danger of alcohol to personal health and safety in both the short and long term.  What stood out most was her statement that damage from alcohol begins immediately.  Whether it is from impaired judgment or the effect on adolescent development, her clear message was that, while there may be influences that tell young people otherwise, those who truly care about them will say it is best to avoid alcohol at this age. Most encouraging of all, was the maturity with which our students listened to Helena’s presentation and the wisdom shown in many of their responses.
