This morning, Year 12 enjoyed a highly interactive and incredibly relevant PD session led by researchers from Newcastle University. The focus was the role of politics in real life. Students participated in a workshop exploring how Parliament make decisions. The issue under the spotlight was smartphones in schools, and students followed the progress of a proposal becoming a bill and ultimately a law – including how British citizens can influence this process. We are partnering with Newcastle University to develop resources that promote understanding and engagement in British democracy. Year 12’s participation is a key part in shaping this new course and ensuring it is as relatable and engaging as possible. From today alone it is clear Newcastle are well on their way to creating such a course and they were very grateful for and impressed by the input of Bede’s 21st century citizens.
